2007, CTC this  spring

This  spring  the CTC classes will  end at the end of may.
Afterwards, during summer Richard will offer private lessons both in tango and Qigong.

A video project: Carmen-Sally Potter

Richard got contacted by the Sally Potter team to prepare a guitar video with a song from the opera Carmen.
Sally Potter has been asked by ENO (English National Opera) to stage and direct a production of Bizet opera this fall of 2007. Dancing will be performed by famous tango dancer Pablo Veron.
Musicologists  mention frequently the Habanera of Carmen as an ancestor of the argentine tango rythm (3-3-2).
Listen to: "L'amour est un oiseau rebelle"

In Preparation

Richard is actively preparing a workshop (8x1.5 hours)
on musicality and energy to be given sometime this fall. This will be  a totally original workshop on an important and  difficult to grasp concept.
Level: intermediate and up.

2007, CTC this winter

This winter from the 23rd of january on, there will be regular tango classes at Dewey Hall.
These classes will be small groups and we will limit the number of participants in them.
Private lessons  will be offered as well.

The classes at the  Concordia University will start again in March.

For any serious student of the art, especially in the beginning phases, I strongly recommend taking a few private lessons to feel the right sensations and exchange of energy.
Group classes and workshops are important but are no  substitute for training one on one with a  good teacher.
There are certain things that cannot be conveyed via concepts or demonstration.
In the library section of the site you will find texts on the fundamentals of argentine tango technique. They constitute good reading for long winter nights...

Launch of  the book "Politics of Touch"

On the 23rd of january 2007,  in  Montreal, was launched a new book by Erin Manning: Politics of Touch*.

During the reception, Erin read an excerpt of her book and danced tango with another woman, Mireille Painchaud reversing the roles at times and exchanging the lead and follow.

Politics of Touch,  a special book!
In this groundbreaking work, Erin Manning blends political philosophy and tango and challenges the mind with a vital, rich and tought provoking book that will echo well into the hearts and minds of tango lovers.

2006

2006 has been a year characterized by a lot of traveling:
China, USA and Argentina.

If you want to get away from winter for a moment, I invite you to go to our library and look at the
pictures of these trips. You may want to read as well the articles on tango titled  "the Beijing Papers" .
Maybe you will find them somewhat helpful like this person who wrote a comment:

Richard:

Your "Beijing Papers" are wonderful! The walking explanation alone has made a powerful contribution to my clarity of intent when I practice how to walk. I have been dancing only 1 year plus 3 months (a leader) and I very much wished and needed to hear such a clear explanation of the walk. You confined to "the word" much that is easily translatable into practice. Much gratitude! I have long known when another leader had it right and looked so beautiful in their lead; and you did a great job laying out the parameters that are at play when I am seeing that. I am using your indications and finding them very on target and quintessentially useful!

So I have my work cut out for me and just wanted to express my appreciation for your articles I found on the Hong Kong site. They are a superb contribution in their clarity, simplicity and relevance.

again, with gratitude,

That's all the news for the moment.
Don't forget to visit the CTC library.  It's open 24/7...

See you soon on the dance floor!
